Accessibility Information

General Space Accessibility: Queer Youth Space is wheelchair accessible. The elevator to our space is behind the main stairs – go around the stairs to the right when you enter the building to get to it. We have a wide variety of seating in the space, including couches and several different sizes and types of chairs. Both the front door of the building and the front door of the space are wide double doors.

Bathroom Accessibility: There is an all-gender, single-stall bathroom in the space, as well as multi-stall male and female restrooms down the hall. At the moment, the all-gender bathroom in the space does not have grab bars – we are planning to install them soon. The male and female bathrooms down the hall do have grab bars and are ADA accessible.

Scent/Fragrance: QYS is currently a reduced fragrance/scent space. Although we have significantly reduced the scents in our space by using scent-free cleaning products and soaps, please note that the building we are in is NOT scent-free, and our landlord frequently paints or uses chemical cleaners in the entryway to QYS, and there are often residual chemical smells in our space. We are working hard to keep QYS as scent-free as possible, so please do not wear fragrances or essential oils when you come to QYS so that folks with chemical sensitivities or chemical injury can enjoy the space as well. To learn more about being fragrance-free, check out the following resources:

Childcare: We provide childcare at our events by request – contact to request it! During open hours, kids are totally welcome at QYS, and we have toys and coloring books for them to play with.

Buddy System: Interested in coming to Queer Youth Space, but feeling anxious about not knowing anyone or not being familiar with the space? We’d love to introduce you to a buddy who’s familiar with QYS to show you around and hang out with you while you’re here :) Email us at to get signed up with a buddy!

Interpretation: Unless otherwise specified, our events are presented in English without interpretation. If you are interested in interpretation (including American Sign Language), please contact us at least ten days before the event so we can do our best to meet your request.

We would love to brainstorm with you about how to make the space more accessible for you, or how to be more accessible in general <3

If you have any questions or suggestions, please email Jude Watson at, or give him a call at 206 718 2536.
